Talk: Protecting Nature, Protecting Israel

10 September @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Join us for an inspiring and eye-opening evening as we explore the incredible natural beauty of Israel and the ongoing efforts to protect it. Despite its small size, Israel is home to some of the world’s most diverse landscapes, teeming with a rich variety of flora and fauna. The Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel (SPNI), the largest environmental NGO in the country, is dedicated to safeguarding these natural treasures.

We are thrilled to welcome Faygle Train, a Canadian-born staff member of SPNI and a passionate advocate for rewilding urban Israel. Faygle will deliver an illustrated talk on the vital work being done at the Gazelle Park in Central Jerusalem, one of SPNI’s latest initiatives. This rewilding project is a beacon of hope in the heart of the city, demonstrating how urban spaces can be transformed into thriving natural habitats.

At a time when Israel faces numerous challenges, the protection of its natural environment is a critical front in the broader struggle for the nation’s future. This talk will not only highlight the beauty of Israel’s landscapes but also the urgent need to preserve them.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about how you can contribute to the preservation of Israel’s natural heritage. Join us for an evening of education, inspiration, and community.

About the Speaker:
Faygle Train is SPNI’s Operations Manager at Gazelle Valley Jerusalem, Israel’s biggest urban nature site. In this role, she ensures the safety of the park’s endangered Mountain gazelles (among its other animals), manages upkeep of over 500 species of native plants, protects the water circulation system, trains staff, and oversees visitor experience. Previously, Faygle taught for over a decade in Canada, Israel, and Nepal.  As such, she is passionate about a wide variety of topics including biodiversity in Israel, the healing role of community nature sites, the plight of Israel’s mountain gazelles, and the impact of the climate crisis on vulnerable communities.
