Join us for an evening with Natalie Cumming, author of ‘The Fiddle’, to hear a remarkable true story, tracing the path of a precious violin across landscapes devastated by war and terror, to
safety and restoration in 21st century Britain. The violin was restored on the BBC show ‘The Repair Shop’, where its story inspired the nation.
From fleeing the Bolsheviks in 1917, to the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, to Mauthausen, Auschwtiz, and Belsen concentration camps, this is an incredible story of loss and survival. Passed from family member to family member, this beautiful instrument endured it all, woven into the tapestry of some of the most important events in modern history, before finally finding its home with Natalie, who was determined to make sure that its story would never be forgotten.
The talk will be accompanied by a stunning violin recital, where Elaine Patience will be playing the original restored violin from the 1800s.
