Join us for a powerful and moving evening as we mark Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, with a special talk by Dorit Oliver-Wolff BEM — Holocaust survivor, author, performer, and human rights advocate.
Dorit was just five years old when war came to her home country of Yugoslavia. She spent the following years moving from one hiding place to another in Hungary, narrowly escaping imprisonment multiple times. After the war, she went on to become a renowned singer in Germany, using her voice both literally and figuratively to tell her story and fight hate.
She chronicled her extraordinary journey in her memoir “From Yellow Star to Pop Star”, described as “a deeply moving memoir and a unique insight into an inspirational woman who survived the Nazis to tell her tale.”
In recognition of her lifelong dedication to Holocaust education, human rights, and combating antisemitism, Dorit was recently awarded the Freedom of the Borough by Eastbourne Council. A popular speaker and advocate, she regularly shares her story in schools, colleges, and community events throughout the South East on behalf of the Holocaust Educational Trust.
Dorit will be coming to BNJC to share her testimony and message of resilience, hope, and action. Her commitment to remembrance and justice is unwavering:
“As long as I have a breath in my body, I will stand up for those who have been wronged and speak about antisemitism!”
Signed copies of Dorit’s book and CDs will be available to purchase on the night.
