Special Sukkot Menus at YOFI

There’s a particular pleasure in eating outside in late September, when the evenings have gone soft and there are lemons and jasmine hanging over your head. Our sukkah is up, the lanterns are lit, and we’d love you to come and sit in it.

Here’s everything happening at YOFI across the festival.

The sukkah is open all week. No booking, no minimum spend, guests and residents are welcome to come and sit. Bring a coffee, bring the kids, bring someone who’d otherwise be on their own this week.

Friday 25 September (י״ד תשרי, Erev Sukkot) — We’re open until 14:00 with our Shabbat menu. You can also pre-order Yom Tov dinner to take home, so the cooking is done before the chag comes in.

Saturday 26 September (ט״ו תשרי, Sukkot I) — Our Yom Tov Shabbat menu, made to take home. Pre-order only.

Sunday 27 September (ט״ז תשרי, Sukkot II) — A Yom Tov set menu, two sittings, pre-order only. £38 per person, £25 per child.

Lunch at 13:00 — Pear and caramelised onion tart to start. Then souvlaki in laffa, chicken or roasted spiced cauliflower, with tzatziki, Greek-style salad and a table full of homemade dips and pickles. Coconut and mango yoghurt cake to finish.

Dinner at 19:30 — Thai butternut squash soup with coriander yoghurt and chilli-lime seeds. Then sticky beef short ribs, soy and ginger sea bream, or soy and ginger tofu, with spring onion mash and honey-sesame glazed vegetables. Spiced apple rice pudding after.

Tuesday 29 September — An evening with Bryan Edery

The one to put in your diary. Bryan is a superb pianist and songwriter, and he’s playing live through dinner for us — he plays by ear, so bring your requests and see what he does with them. We’re calling the evening Yofi shel shira, the beauty of song, which felt about right for Sukkot. Click here for more information about this event.

Chol HaMoed, Monday 28 September – Thursday 1 October — Normal service, with seasonal specials on alongside the usual menu.

Friday 2 October (כ״א תשרי, Hoshana Rabbah) — Open until 14:00, Shabbat menu, with dinner available to pre-order and take home.

Sunday 4 October (כ״ג תשרי, Simchat Torah) — Our final special menu of the festival, two sittings, pre-order only. £38 per person, £25 per child.

Lunch at 13:00 — Roasted smoked aubergine with tahini and pickled sultanas. Kofta three ways — lamb, vegetable or fish — with sweet potato tabbouleh, sumac yoghurt, toasted pine nuts and a pomegranate and cucumber salad. Meskouta, Moroccan orange cake, with vanilla ice cream.

Dinner at 19:30 — Celeriac velouté. Then beef stracotto, vegetable stracotto or white fish puttanesca, with rigatoni, homemade garlic bread and a rocket and Parmesan salad (pareve). Rich chocolate mousse with roasted hazelnuts, olive oil and sea salt.

How to book: Everything with a sitting or a takeaway needs pre-ordering. Email yofi@bnjc.co.uk and we’ll sort you out, mention which day, which sitting, how many, and any dietary requirements.

Chag Sukkot sameach. We’ll see you under the lanterns.
