About BNJC

We're a forward-thinking Jewish community hub in the heart of Brighton & Hove

This hub of Jewish life will be a beacon of Jewish identity with the power to cultivate interfaith relationships and make a lasting impact on the entire city. I hope that it will put Brighton on the Jewish map and the Jewish community on Brighton’s map.

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis

Our vision

BNJC (Brighton & Hove Jewish Community) exists to support the Jewish Community in Brighton & Hove and to provide outstanding facilities and events for the entire city to enjoy. We’re a vibrant hub for Jewish arts, culture, food, family programming, learning and much more, where everyone is welcome.

Launched in 2017 with generous support from The Bloom Foundation and in partnership with BHHC (Brighton & Hove Hebrew Congregation), BNJC was founded with the vision to revitalise Jewish life in Brighton & Hove, honouring over 250 years of Jewish history in our city.

After three years of construction, our doors opened in 2023 as a forward-thinking Jewish community hub for all.

Our mission

We aim to put the outstanding seaside city of Brighton & Hove back on the Jewish map, and attract the Jewish community, of all ages and across the religious spectrum, to call Brighton & Hove their home.

With a new Synagogue and mikvah, outstanding Kosher dining and Jewish nursery, our mission is to support Jewish life across the spectrum. Our community welcomes people of every background, of all faiths and no faiths to enjoy our outstanding facilities.

We’re here to add to the diverse and vibrant spirit of Brighton & Hove.

Our charity

BNJC is registered with the Charity Commission (1195729). Making a donation to BNJC supports our growth as a community and to develop our programme of cultural events, educational provisions and social action initiatives across Brighton & Hove. For more information on how you can support BNJC, please visit our Support Us page.

Some of the activities in our community hub are run by the charity’s trading subsidiary, BNJC Trading Ltd (14174228), including our co-working hub and gym. Our dining facilities are run and managed by Novellino Brighton. All profits from our trading subsidiary are donated back to BNJC to ensure we can maximise our community engagement initiatives and charitable activities.

The Sussex Jewish Representative Council (SJRC)

We value our partnership with the SJRC. The Sussex Jewish Representative Council provides a central contact point for all Jewish organisations in Sussex. Their remit is to act as the presiding body of the Sussex Jewish community, as an umbrella organisation embracing all synagogues and Jewish organisations within the Sussex area. To protect and further the interests of the Sussex Jewish community. The SJRC offers the community the opportunity to work as one and acts as the voice of the local Jewish community.
