Stay at BNJC

Questions guests ask

Answers for guests staying at BNJC in Hove: do you have to be Jewish, Shabbat in the flats, the eruv, linen and cleaning, parking, bikes, mobile data, access and cancellations.

Do I have to be Jewish to stay here?

No. Everyone is welcome. The Hub is a hub for all, with kosher food, a synagogue and the sea on the doorstep for anyone who would like them.

Can I book through an agent or a booking site?

No. Stays are direct only. Book with BNJC on this site, by phone on 01273 750333, option 1 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, or until the start of Shabbat on winter Fridays) or by email to stay@bnjc.co.uk. There are no agents, so there are no booking fees. Choose your dates.

Can I check in before Shabbat?

Yes. In the summer, check-in is from 3pm. In the winter, the Stays team will work with you so you can check in and be ready for Shabbat.

How do I get in? What about on Shabbat?

The entry details arrive before you do, with everything you need to get in and out using a code.

Is there an eruv?

Yes. There’s an eruv at the Hub, and it’s all-encompassing.

Where is the synagogue?

At the Hub, a short walk from the flats. It is the home of the Brighton & Hove Hebrew Congregation, with services on Friday night and Shabbat morning. See this week’s Shabbat times or bhhc.org.uk.

Is there a Mikveh?

Yes. The Mikveh is at the Hub too. To use it, get in touch with the Brighton & Hove Hebrew Congregation at bhhc.org.uk.

Can the kitchen be kashered before we arrive?

Every flat has its own kitchen, and it can be kashered on request. Tell the Stays team how you would like it to work for your stay.

What’s there for Shabbat?

A hotplate, an urn on a timer and Shabbat lamps. The lift has a Shabbat mode.

Can we have meals catered for Friday night?

Absolutely. Yofi has special Friday night menus from time to time, and you can order à la carte whenever you like, to eat in the restaurant or take away. See Yofi.

Are linen and towels included? Is there daily cleaning?

Linen and towels are included. Daily cleaning is not, but it can be arranged: ask the Stays team.

Is there parking?

Yes, for a fee: one space per unit, at £10 a day. Send your vehicle registration before you arrive so security can be told. The details are in the stays terms.

Where can I keep a bike?

Bike storage is available for a fee. Ask the Stays team before you arrive.

Is breakfast available? Are there bed and breakfast rates?

Bed and breakfast rates are available. Ask the Stays team when you book.

Can guests use the gym?

No. Guests cannot use the gym at the Hub.

Do you have cots and high chairs?

Yes. A cot costs £5 and is made up before you arrive.

Is there an accessible flat?

Yes, the accessible two-bedroom flat on the fifth floor: step-free, a roll-in shower and a disabled parking space. See Olive Tree 18.

How long can I stay?

Up to 14 nights.

Can I smoke?

No, anywhere in the flats or houses.

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes, in the flats and houses.

Can I bring a SIM card? What about mobile data when visiting the UK?

Yes. The flats and houses have Wi-Fi, so most things work as they are. For mobile data, check what your own provider charges in the UK, or use a UK SIM or an eSIM, which can be set up before you travel if your phone is unlocked.

What if I need to cancel?

The cancellation rules are on every unit page and in the stays terms.

Can I bring a group?

Yes. Groups and Shabbatonim are hosted here, with beds for up to 100. Plan a group stay.
