Every flame needs a guardian, and guardians almost never get the spotlight. On the third night of Chanukah, they get the candles.
Partners in Light brings the community together with representatives of the Community Security Trust (CST), Sussex Police, the fire and ambulance services and the Council: the people who run toward the dark so everyone else can sit in the light. The partners are invited guests, and everyone is welcome to come and celebrate them.
The evening
- A menorah lighting led by representatives of each service, with the Rabbi leading the prayer in the synagogue
- A few words of thanks on public service and a community that looks after each other
- Doughnuts, latkes and hot drinks
- A chance for people of every age to meet local heroes and thank them in person
